Featured Cover Star - 8/17

Dancer and Choreographer Anjali Mehra photographed in my home, where I experimented with fusing her portrait with a still life image of black ink in water. 

The shoot was originally for portraits, so I didn’t need the full studio that I would normally use for dance photography. But once we had the head shots we just played with ideas against the small grey background paper. I already had several images of ink dispersing in water, shot on a perspex still life table that I’d used for another dance shoot, so I decided to do the same thing with this shot of Anjali.

Anjali Mehra recently got back into her pointe shoes after over 10 years to perform as Irina in Matthew Bourne’s Olivier award winning ‘The Red Shoes’ which has just completed a UK Tour. She will be flying off to USA in Autumn to perform in Los Angeles, Washington and Charlotte. Anjali also works as a choreographer and will be creating the movement for a new musical called First Ladies for YMT this summer with director Gerard Jones who she also worked recently with on the Jette Parker Young Artist Summer Show at the Royal Opera House.
